Abstract:In view of the problems of main engine selection and meeting the ship EEDI Ⅲ requirement of new Panamax bulk carrier, the evaluation method and EEDI for minimum installed power of main engine of new Panamax 85 000 t bulk carrier are analyzed and calculated. The minimum installed power parameters of main engine are obtained, the model of low-speed main engine is selected, the Specified Maximum Continuous Rating (SMCR) and speed of main engine are chosen reasonably, and the power reserve and unit fuel consumption of main engine are reduced. Under the measures of design schemes to only reserve the appropriate main engine power margin and not to configure the additional energy-saving facilities or not to use the new environmental protection energy, the ship is ensured to meet the EEDI Ⅲ requirement, which can provide reference for the main engine selection and design of 85 000 t bulk carrier.
